About Maya

I get into a rhythm and a flow. It's like swimming up towards the glistening sun, out from the depth of the deep blue sea. A rising feeling surfaces and the soothing sense of peace takes over with the settling of my heart.

I am a Black, Indigenous, multiracial queer woman (she/hers) raised in a White Jewish family in San Francisco. With my diverse background of life and work experiences as well as my self-exploration through my own healing journey, my knowledge of life and health has changed with time. I now have the perspective that the greatest potential for healing comes in the space between our collective shared cultural knowledge of health and the integration of individualized healing experiences.

While I now practice East Asian integrative healing, I have worked as a registered nurse in the Bay Area for over 8 years. I started out in healthcare during my bachelor’s nursing program at the University of San Francisco, working as a caregiver for a company that offered hospice and end-of-life palliative care. My first job working as a RN was for the Oakland Unified School District as a school nurse before I transitioned into post-acute care and rehabilitation. I then spent some time as an acute care coordinator for a post-acute care case management company, working out of Dignity Health hospitals in San Francisco. During my time working as a nurse, I found I was most influential to my patients during the healing space experienced in between medical treatments. This space provided what I describe as the healing power of authenticity and connection.

By simply taking the time to listen to my patients and hear their pain, I realized that in this space a shift occurred, and the possibilities expanded for the potential of medicine and healing. I experienced this expanding potential through my own health journey while navigating the complexity of the Western healthcare system with the frequent tendency to feel unheard, as I searched endlessly for the right treatment of my own chronic condition. My healing journey collided with my newfound awareness of expansive healing with my patients. This sparked in me a deep yearning to shift my consciousness towards the energetics of healing.

Beyond my passion for medicine, energy, and health, I am equally excited about creating and experiencing art, eating and cooking food, and feeling the sound vibrations of a beating drum: I get into a rhythm and a flow: it’s like swimming up towards the glistening sun, out from the depth of the deep blue sea. A rising feeling surfaces and the soothing sense of peace takes over with the settling of my heart.

I now live in San Francisco with my partner and two dogs. When I’m not engaged in health, cooking, and finding my flow, I find myself shifting in thought from the biggest ideas to the tiniest details: like the greatness of outer space, the sun and the moon, gravity… to the microscopic mycelium network branching beneath our feet, carrying messages for the survival of nature from the roots of earth’s consciousness.
